Thompson's Harbor State Park
Contact: 989-734-2543 Description: Thompson's Harbor State Park is a largely undeveloped public recreation area covering 5,109 acres. It includes a variety of terrain including second-growth forests, flats, marshes, sand dunes and beaches right up agains Lake Huron. It boasts over 100 bird species as well as a variety of other notable flora and fauna. It is a Michigan dark sky preserve, making it exceptional for viewing the starry night sky. |

Calcite Quarry
Description: Calcite is the largest limestone quarry in the world. This massive operation is a sight to behold from the two lookout points. The amazing view of the mine itself can be seen from Quarry View just outside of town on Petersville Road. Large ships enter the ports regularly and can be seen up close at Harbor View Park. There, you can also learn about what is harvested and its purposes. |
Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary
Description: Throughout the years, numerous vessels have fallen below the waves. There are multiple wrecks to explore in the waters just off of Rogers City. This is a must-see for scuba divers interested exploring the history of our waters. |
Huron Sunrise Trail
Description: This 11-mile path stretches from Rogers City up to 40 Mile Point Lighthouse and Hoeft State Park with a spur route to the Herman Vogler Conservation Area. It is nearly completely paved, making it perfect for walking, cycling, and roller blading. The winding path travels along the coast and through the trees, providing excellent scenery. |
